Those 'from off' are really liking our area
By Phillip Wood Coffey It was at Campbellsville Walmart recently I began to ask someone nearby, where is 'whatever?' This is very common for me - talking to whomever or nobody at all - very loud - often blustery because that is what I do. When they shared their location I noticed their 'not from near here' accent. They were 'from off' - White Mountains of New Hampshire near the Canadian border. They moved to Taylor County recently.
They said they really like living here, "People are trustworthy, unlike from their ancestral home. Up there you got to go through all the legalities, notoriety, and other software." They continued, "Down here people are trustworthy, handshakes are good enough." The lady said her brother who visited them for about a week here in KY told them people where he resided in Oklahoma were not trustworthy either. My newfound acquaintances said that the brother also agreed that people are trustworthy here. Perhaps I put it on a little thick but I said, "if I tell you something I will follow through or try to contact you explaining why I can not meet you or do what I promised or I am probably very sick or dead."
