praying before a meal is called “saying grace” and it often starts with something like “dear lord” our “our heavenly feather” (so a formal address to god). within the prayer you typically give thanks to god for the food or ask god to bless it and yourself/selves (for example, “we thank you for this meal”), and you can thank him or ask for blessings for other things as well such as family. the prayer will end with “amen”, in my family it ended with “in jesus name, amen” or “in jesus name we pray, amen”. i only ever said grace when i lived with my grandparents, and they would have us link hands around the table and close our eyes. only one of us would say the prayer (said out loud), but all of us would repeat “amen” when it is said at the end

Thank you very much. I say grace every meal in Japanese. I sometimes have wondered if saying grace in the U.S. include some special contents. As far as I am concerned, I say, "Thank you for these wonderful foods and drinks, in Jesus' name I pray, Amen" in Japanese. I have not asked God to bless me or my family. This seems the only difference between my style and the American style. Thank you very much.
