As residents of West Alabama prepare for the holiday weekend, those traveling across the state or embarking on long-distance journeys are advised to remain vigilant on the roads as travel is expected to increase.
Overall Travel Outlook
According to AAA booking data, overall domestic travel over Labor Day weekend is up 9% compared to last year, while the cost to travel domestically is down 2%.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said it is “prepared to screen more than 17 million people during what is expected to be the busiest Labor Day travel period on record, which will run Thursday, August 29 through Wednesday, September 4. The peak travel day is projected to be August 30, when TSA expects to screen 2.86 million people.”

Holiday Weekend Weather Thoughts
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa's Chief Meteorologist, said Alabamians should expect some pretty routine late summer weather through the holiday weekend.
“Partly sunny days with random, scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Most of the storms will come from about 1:00 until 10:00 p.m.,” said Spann.
The probability of rain in any given location today is between 20 and 30 percent, increasing to 40 to 50 percent from tomorrow through Monday.
Spann also mentions, "Keep in mind where storms develop. They will produce lots of lightning, and some could produce strong winds.”
